At the beginning of the 2018-2019 season, Manchester United signed Argentine midfielder Javier "Cuadrado" Mascherano on loan from Barcelona for one year. The signing was seen as a boost to the club's midfield depth and experience in Serie A.
However, Cuadrado struggled to find his place in the Juventus team during his time there. Despite being brought in as a backup to star player Marco Verratti, he found it difficult to make an impact in the first half of the season. He made just three appearances before being sent off against Sampdoria in December 2018.
The following month, Cuadrado returned to England where he joined Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion on a short-term deal until the end of the season. In his brief spell at the Amex Stadium, he made six appearances and scored once in a 4-1 win over West Ham United.
Despite his lacklustre performances at Juventus and his short stint at Brighton,Serie A Stadium Cuadrado has been linked with a return to Italy after the COVID-19 pandemic forced many clubs to reduce their squads due to travel restrictions.
In an interview with Sky Sport Italia, Cuadrado revealed that he is open to returning to Italy and playing for another club. "I've had good experiences in Italy and I would love to play again there," he said. "But I'm also looking forward to starting fresh and exploring new opportunities."
For now, Cuadrado will continue to look for a club to join and prove himself once more on the pitch. While his time at Juventus and Brighton may not have been successful, they were both opportunities to showcase his talent and experience at the highest level of football. It remains to be seen if he can recapture the form that saw him earn a place in Argentina's World Cup squad in 2014.
